The Butrint Foundation

Lord Rothschild and Lord Sainsbury of Preston Candover created the Butrint Foundation as a British charity (UK registered charity No. 1017039) in 1993.

The Foundation’s objectives are to undertake archaeological research and training at Butrint as well as to promote the conservation and presentation of the archaeological site and its surroundings.

From its inception the Foundation has encouraged managed international and national tourism at Butrint, believing that this will help the local economy and, in particular, employment as well as help to promote Albania.
