Given the long journey and winding roads hiring a taxi is much more comfortable. By car the journey takes approximately five-six hours; you should expect to pay in the region of 120 Euro / 14500 Leke.

There are several car hire companies in Tirana. The roads can be hazardous and it is worth taking advice from your embassy regarding safety. The inland road via Gjirokastra is the fastest and safest; the coastal road is difficult to drive but offers stunning views.
